UNION LABOR RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVE NEEDED


The labor relations representative is responsible for all matters related to collective bargaining, including organizing nurses in private and public employment; compiling, analyzing, interpreting and presenting pertinent data; negotiating contracts; processing grievances and conducting arbitrations; and representing nurses in employment-related problems. The ideal candidate has had prior experience as a full time labor relations representative, with demonstrated success at contract negotiations and arbitrations, running effective contract campaigns, plus effectiveness in organizing membership participation and developing rank and file leadership. A Bachelor’s degree is required and advanced degree is preferred.

LABOR ORGANIZER

A unique opportunity for an individual who possesses strong communication skills and an interest in labor organizing. The qualified candidate will be responsible for organizing registered nurses and assisting existing bargaining units with internal organizing. A significant part of the job will be developing member leaders to be involved in action teams and other membership activities. Leadership and motivational skills are critical and a knowledge of union organizing and practice skills. Bachelors degree required and experience preferred. Excellent salary and benefits commensurate with experience. Significant in state travel involved.

CONTINUING EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NURSE ASSOCIATE

Okemos, Michigan

The Michigan Nurses Association, an affiliate of National Nurses United (NNU) and AFL-CIO, seeks a continuing education and professional development nurse associate in the Nursing Practice Department. The department is responsible for promoting excellence in nursing practice, protecting the art and science of nursing in the workplace, and advocating for patient safety/quality care.

General Summary
The associate will help plan and implement a program that promotes the practice and education standards of the nursing profession and the accomplishments of the MNA to targeted audiences. Must be an advocate for nursing in the workplace and for patient safety and quality care. The associate will work to ensure that the Nursing Practice Department is a major clinical practice resource for direct care nurses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist Practice Director in developing a strategic plan for the development and implementation of the Association’s Nursing Practice Program
  2. Oversee recordkeeping for programs by establishing and updating continuing education files and ensuring completion of required paper work
  3. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of current nursing practice, patient advocacy issues, nursing informatics, and quality improvement
  4. Act as a resource for continuing education activities and participate in needs assessment of membership education
  5. Assist in or conduct education in a variety of formats including online offerings
  6. Promote positive relationships with nursing schools and faculty
  7. In conjunction with Director, act as staff representative to the Association’s Congress on Nursing Practice and CEAP committees
  8. Represent MNA in state functions and task forces as needed or directed

Qualifications/Requirements
Education: BSN from an accredited institution; additional certification(s) preferred
Licensing: R.N. licensure, State of Michigan
Experience: 5 years’ nursing practice; health policy development and union nursing experience preferred, along with experience in:

  • Nursing practice standards and policy knowledge
  • Education planning and presentation
  • Technology use

Skills: Strong written, verbal and informatics skills; ability to communicate effectively with board members, staff, students, fellow nurses and the public. Strengths must include organizational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
