Michigan Board of Nursing
Continuing Education Requirements
For questions call the continuing education
office at the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry
Services at (517) 335-0930.
Under Michigan law, all RNs and LPNs are required
to complete 25 continuing education contact hours during
the two years preceding application for license renewal.
The Michigan Board of Nursing has promulgated Administrative
Rules R338.10601 - R338.10603, which set license renewal
requirements for nurses.
Submission of the application for license renewal
means that the applicant has complied with the rules.
Only those selected for an audit will be required to
send in evidence verifying their participation in acceptable
CE activities.
Nurses need 25 contact hours (not CEUs) earned during
the two years preceding an application for license renewal.
The Michigan Board of Nursing defines a contact hour
as 50 or 60 minutes of attendance at a continuing education
program in compliance with standards set by:
American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on
Accreditation (MNA is accredited as a provider and approver
of nursing continuing education by the ANCC. Nursing
continuing education activities provided by MNA or approved
