The Forces of Magnetism: Their Impact on RN Autonomy, Independent Judgment and Advocacy
Presenter: Hedy Dumpel, RN, JD
As the National Chief Director of Nursing Practice and Patient Advocacy for CNA/NNOC, Hedy promotes and protects the vital role that registered nurses play in health care as direct caregivers and patient advocates. Her focus expands to patient advocacy issues in all professional practice settings and arenas, from political and regulatory action to nursing practice and collective bargaining. Hedy has worked at CNA for more than 20 years in a variety of capacities.

During this presentation, attendees will examine how the professional models of care, nursing leadership and management style promoted by magnet status designation schemes impact the registered nurse’s ability to exercise independent professional judgment and advocate in the exclusive interest of the patient. In addition, the impact of the requirement that a hospital is mandated to demonstrate it has a mechanism in place to analyze patient outcome data while incorporating clinical decision-making techniques will be explained.
