Welcome to the MNSA Faculty Corner!
Feb. 27, 2008 - Well, the 2008 Convention is not quite a month in the past but a great deal has been occurring since that time. The newly elected MNSA Board met February 16, 2008 to discuss plans for the NSNA convention in Grapevine, TX in late March, establish dates for the monthly board meetings, determine the meeting date for the Council of Student Leaders (COSL) and determine the next year’s MNSA Convention dates! Believe it or not—you might want to put the following dates on your calendar! The Council of Student Leaders (COSL) will meet October 11, 2008. If you haven’t attended this in the past—this is were YOUR student leaders come to learn more about MNSA and state leadership opportunities as well as networking to make your chapter of SNA even stronger! Please plan on sending your current and up-and-coming student leaders! Details of location, time and place are pending. COSL is the place where faculty advisors can also network and discussion chapter SNA strategies for success—so plan to attend yourself as well! The 2009 MNSA Convention will be held February 6, 7 and 8 next year! Again, the specific details of location, times, and places are forthcoming. Please plan on attending along with your students! Faculty Advisor Workshop: Lastly, I wanted to thank Dr. Julie Coon, Department Head of Nursing from Ferris State University for the wonderful presentation and discussion at the faculty advisor workshop at the convention. Dr. Coon presented an overview of work being done by MACN (Michigan Colleges of Nursing—BSN programs), MCNEA (Michigan Colleges of Nursing Education Association—A.D.N. programs) and MONE (Michigan Organization of Nurse Executives). As Dr. Coon noted, the “3M” group has developed 4 specific taskforces working on nursing education initiatives in the state. These groups are working collaboratively with our Michigan Chief Nurse Executive, Jeannette Klemczak. The four task forces are composed of members from each organization and include: 1) partnerships with service taskforce, 2) nursing faculty shortage taskforce, 3) new clinical education models taskforce and 4) taskforce to increase BSN graduates in practice. All in all, the 2008 Convention was a big success and the faculty advisor workshop opened up lively discussion. If there are any topics you want to have presented at COSL or the 2009 Convention, let me know! And remember, winter is almost over! Michael L. Williams, MSN, RN, CCRN, CNE
