MNA Legislative Update 03-23-12
Senate OKs Another Ban on Unions
Home help service workers would no longer be allowed to lawfully unionize according to language in a bill that passed the Senate yesterday. HB 4003 has been sitting around for months and the Senate had not acted on it, even though the objective of it is to prohibit home help workers from unionizing. This past Thursday, the Senate decided to move SB 1018, a bill that does just that. This is yet another effort on the part of the legislature to strip away collective bargaining rights in Michigan. It is also apparent that in the wake of organized labor’s efforts to protect collective bargaining, the Michigan legislature is determined to continue breaking it down, piece by piece. Please call your state representative today and ask them NOT to support this legislation when it comes up in the House.
Circulate the Petition to Protect Your Collective Bargaining Rights
The statewide effort to collect petition signatures in support of putting a collective bargaining constitutional amendment on the November ballot is well under way. We are mobilizing members to gather signatures in their hometowns and counties to do our part to make this goal a reality. If you have not already done so, please contact Julia Smith-Heck at email@example.com or at 517-853-5513 to get petitions or to ask any questions you may have related to signature gathering.
