FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Escanaba, MI -- Signatures are currently being obtained for a new agreement between the Michigan Nurses Association and OSF St. Francis Hospital.  This Agreement resolves a one year dispute between the parties.

On January 31, 2011 Irving Gottschalk, Regional Director of the National Labor Relations Board, Thirtieth Region based in Milwaukee, signed a “COMPLAINT AND NOTICE OF HEARING”.  David Perlove, Labor Relations Representative from the MNA states:  “The complaint addresses the Hospital’s decision to unilaterally declare impasse and implement a number of contract concessions”.  The NLRB Complaint, as part of a remedy, would have required the Hospital “to restore wages, hours, and terms and conditions employment as they existed” before the July 25, 2011 implementation.

Prior to the hearing date the parties mutually agreed to meet for another bargaining session.  “I believe we needed to get back to the table and make a good faith attempt to resolve our differences,”  Perlove said.  The parties in fact did reach agreement and mutually cancelled the NLRB hearing that was scheduled in April.

The settlement includes: an extension of the current contract from April 30, 2012 to April 30 2013, wage increases, an improvement on bonuses paid to RNs who have reached their maximum hourly rates of pay, shift differential increase, the re-instatement of Christmas Eve as a paid holiday, and paid time off improvements from the Hospital’s implemented PTO benefit.    o

MNA represents 113 registered nurses at the Hospital and has served as their bargaining agent since 2004.
