FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Okemos, Michigan – The Michigan Nurses Association (MNA), the voice for direct care nursing in Michigan, is pleased to announce the re-election of Jeffrey Breslin, RN, as president of the association. This will be the second two-year term for Breslin, a registered nurse employed at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. As president, Breslin is responsible for chairing the MNA Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, serves as ex-officio member of all committees, and represents MNA as a delegate to the National Nurses United Convention. During the past two years, he has traveled throughout Michigan and across the United States representing the interests of Michigan nurses.
At the recent MNA Convention and House of Delegates, Breslin challenged the assembled nursing leaders to take ownership of the Main Street Contract and promote it within their communities. The Main Street Contract is a political movement based on seven principles:
- Jobs at living wages to reinvest in America.
- Equal access to quality, public education.
- Guaranteed healthcare for all.
- A secure retirement, with the ability to retire in dignity.
- Good housing and protection from hunger.
- A safe, clean, and healthy environment.
- A just taxation system where corporations, and the wealthy pay their fair share.
“As the most trusted profession and because of our deep commitment to our patients, we can’t be silent anymore,” Breslin urged the nurses. “The Main Street Contract means that nurses take strong action as political activists. With all of us working together, we can change the landscape of America. We will follow up to make sure the people we have put into office are looking out for all Americans, not just the ones that write checks to get them into office.”
“This is our pledge and commitment,” Breslin said. “MNA will be a driving force in Michigan to make sure the Main Street Contract is visible and effective on every Main Street in this state.”
The Michigan Nurses Association, www.minurses.org, represents 10,000 registered nurses across the state, advocating for them and their patients. Visit fightformainstreet.orgfor more information on their Michigan Main Street Campaign.
