The Michigan Nurses Association represents the approximately 420 registered nurses who have provided the highest level of medical care at Marquette General Hospital to the community for decades. MGH announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by Duke LifePoint Healthcare , the next step in a process it announced in March. If the state Attorney General approves the acquisition, Marquette General Hospital will become the first Michigan facility owned by the for-profit operation.
“Duke LifePoint’s commitment to honoring the Michigan Nurses Association contract shows they understand that the nurses at Marquette General are absolutely essential to quality patient care,” said Carolyn Hietamaki, a registered nurse at MGH and treasurer of the Michigan Nurses Association Board of Directors. “We’re excited about our communities having access to expanded health care and new medical technology. It’s imperative that the hospital includes the nurses, who are the experts in patient care, in planning the changes ahead. We look forward to receiving more specific information about plans and timelines.”
