ANA members are now able to vote for the candidate they believe will be the strongest advocate for nurses while serving as President. ANA's Election 2008 Action Center is home to the "virtual voting booth," an online poll that gives voice to the candidate preferred most by nurses. Voting ends on January 17th! Be sure to cast your vote TODAY! SCHIP EXTENSION APPROVED The Associated Press reports that President Bush has signed legislation that will extend the SCHIP program through March 2009. The extension will cover children who are already enrolled in the program but will not expand coverage. SUBMIT THE PAPERWORK QUICKLY! Given the importance of Congress in the policy decisions related to healthcare and staff nurse issues, the United American Nurses (UAN) is seeking appointments to the UAN PAC Board, to begin work in 2008. Wednesday, March 12 is the date for the 2008 Michigan Nurses MARCH! This energetic day of political activism for nurses at the Capitol begins at the Lansing Center in Lansing with all the latest news on current legislation and more. The day culminates with a march to the Capitol and visits to legislators. NEW - at 3:00 pm, a special legislative hearing on a nursing issue has been added to the schedule. The 2007 Michigan Nurses MARCH! was a great day and the 2008 MARCH! promises to be even better. Register today! TWO WEEKS LEFT! The early registration deadline for the MNSA Convention, February 6-8, 2008 at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth has been extended to Tuesday, January 15, 2008 . ARH NURSES RATIFY CONTRACT The nurses of Appalachian Regional Healthcare are celebrating the beginning of 2008 with a new contract. Out on strike for nearly three months due to concerns regarding safe patient care, the nurses held firm and made gains in staffing issues, among other areas.
