CE, DISCOUNTS, AND A 7' HAND - COME TO THE WOMEN'S EXPO!

You have read about the 4.0 contact hours, lunch and FREE ticket to the Women's Expo on May 1. Remember, too, that many of the exhibitors will be offering nurses discounts on May 1 (bring your workplace ID or nursing license!). But there's more! The MNA booth will be on display May 1-4 at the Expo where we will be collecting signatures to put a proposal on the November ballot that would ensure that every Michigander has affordable health coverage. In addition, we are playing a hand washing game with the children who are attending the Expo called "Sink Those Germs!" at the booth - look for "Henry the Hand," our 7' hand washing mascot! You do not want to miss this event - plan to attend now!

MEASLES UPDATE

Two additional measles cases have been confirmed in northern Osceola County. Rash onsets occurred between March 31 and April 9. Source of exposure is unknown, but may relate to the two prior cases confirmed in the Cadillac area in mid-March. Measles is a highly communicable viral disease, preventable by routine childhood vaccination. Michigan public health and medical providers should continue to have a high index of suspicion for measles in cases of febrile rash illness. Suspect cases should be reported immediately to local health departments for further investigation. Respiratory isolation is indicated; important specimens for testing include serum for measles (and rubella) IgM serology, throat swab (in viral transport media) and urine. MDCH measles control guidelines are available at www.michigan.gov/immunize (under Provider Information).
