FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monroe County nurses ratify four-year contract

Monroe, MI – Registered Nurses at Monroe County Health Department, represented by the Michigan Nurses Association, ratified a new contract last week.

The RNs will receive a 3% wage increase in each year of the four-year contract, with increases retroactive to January 1, 2007, the beginning of the contract year. Newly hired part-time nurses working more than 1,000 hours a year will be eligible to participate in the retirement system. A full-time work-week was increased from 37 ½ to 40 hours a week, to be more in line with other county workers.

The RNs will have a choice of four health care plans and will pay a portion of the annual premiums. They will pay 5% of the premium for the remainder of 2007; 7% in 2008 and 2009, and 10% in 2010. Prescription co-payments will range from $10-$30 and maintenance drugs will be purchased by mail order at a discounted rate of $20, $40 and $60 for a three-month supply.

They will also be able to cash out all unused sick leave at the end of the year, and there were changes in the funeral leave policies.

The contact also calls for scrubs to be provided and laundered for the jail RNs in accordance with OSHA standards.
