RNs at West Shore Medical Center ratify a new short term contract
Manistee, MI – Registered nurses at West Shore Medical Center, represented by the Michigan Nurses Association, ratified a new contract this week.
The RNs will see a wage increase of 3 1/2 % wage increase effective October 29, 2007 with 2 ½ percent retroactive to April 2, 2007. This short-term contract runs through June 31, 2008.
Registered Nurses will receive additional increases for cross training, team leader differentials and shift pay. Changes were also made in bonus pay for RNs who come in on short notice to fill a “hole” in the staffing schedule.
Registered nurses who want to volunteer to assist in the event of a disaster will now be able to use unpaid “disaster relief leave” which allows RNs to take up to 14 days off.
Health insurance benefits remained the same and will be provided by Priority Health.
The new contract also requires the hospital to develop a system for the handling and cleaning of uniforms with blood-born pathogens, to comply with OSHA standards.
The RNs overwhelmingly ratified the contract. MNA represents approximately 65 RNs at West Shore Medical Center.
