Hackley, MNA settle on missing materials
Okemos, MI – A hearing planned for February 28, 2008 to review evidence and testimony on an Unfair Labor Practice Complaint against Hackley Hospital, located in Muskegon, was canceled when the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) and the Hospital were able to settle the issue. The Unfair Labor Charge had been filed with the National Labor Relations Board on behalf of the registered nurses at Hackley Hospital, who are represented by MNA.
The ULP Charge was filed after the Hospital failed to provide MNA with requested information regarding a potential merger between Hackley Hospital and Mercy General Health Partners, which is part of Trinity Health. The requested information has now been shared with the MNA and local union leadership.
In addition, a letter has been received by MNA from Trinity Health and the CEOs of Hackley and Mercy General Health Partners stating that in the event of a merger the MNA would be recognized as the collective bargaining agent for the Hackley nurses and that the current collective bargaining agreement would remain in effect.
“We are pleased that our persistence paid off and that we were able to reach a resolution to this matter prior to the merger. Having the information and an open dialogue with Hackley management along with the commitment by all parties that the union and the contract will be in place has helped to alleviate some of our concerns related to the merger,” Jessica Salazar, MNA Labor Relations Representative.
