ARMC RNs reject final offer
Alpena, MI – On Thursday, April 10, the registered nurses of Alpena Regional Medical Center (ARMC) overwhelmingly rejected the Hospital’s final contract offer. The Union is still committed to negotiating a fair and reasonable contract with ARMC, but if the Hospital remains unwilling to do this the Union will focus on fact finding. The fact finder will investigate the dispute and offer a neutral opinion as to how it should be settled. The nurses, at this time, will continue to work without a contract.
“There were far too many issues at stake for the membership to agree to this offer,” said Lisa Harrison, MNA Labor Representative. “The nurses are standing firmly united in their commitment to negotiate a contract that protects both the nurses and their patients. We are not excluding any actions that may be needed to make sure the ARMC nurses have a contract that protects both them and their patients. The specific problems the nurses have within ARMC are problems that this hospital must address.”
The concerns raised by the nurses include: being asked to take concessions in retirement, longevity and insurance costs that are more severe than other unionized employees; the inability to add health and safety language and OSHA standards against violence into the contract; and the lack of input in nurse to patient staffing levels.
