FINANCIAL PLANNING FOR RETIREMENT

Planning for retirement used to be a simple matter. Work until age 65, begin receiving retirement benefits, and enjoy your retirement. Unfortunately, the real world is quite a different story. Most of today's retirees find that Social Security alone isn't enough to make ends meet. Many have no other retirement savings to speak of. Thus, too many people spend what they had hoped would be a comfortable retirement struggling to put food on the table or a roof over their heads.

To obtain the money you'll need for a financially secure retirement, you need to build an investment plan for your future NOW. It is best to consult with a financial planner or investment counselor to discuss your current investments, employer retirement plans and other assets you may already have. An experienced professional can advise you on tax benefits, risk and return, and benefits of diversification. You and your financial planner will need to discuss how long you have until you retire, how much you can afford to save, and how comfortable you are with risk.

If you'd like more information on planning for retirement, there are many books and web sites on the subject. In order to find a financial planner with a good track record, ask family and friends if they have someone they trust handling their finances. Financial planners are available through all banks and financial institutions.
